Russia and Georgia are the two most popular MBBS abroad destinations for Indian students in 2026 — and choosing between them is one of the most common questions Doctor’s Direction receives from Gujarat students and parents. Both are excellent NMC-approved choices. But they are different in important ways. This guide gives you the honest, side-by-side comparison you need to decide.

Russia has a wider fee range — from ₹18 lakhs at affordable universities like Bashkir or Ural State to ₹30 lakhs at Moscow universities like Sechenov or RUDN. Georgia is more consistent, ranging from ₹24 lakhs at Caucasus International University to ₹35 lakhs at Tbilisi State Medical University. At the top-university level, fees are similar. At the budget end, Russia offers more affordable options.
This is where Georgia wins clearly for many Indian students. Georgia offers 100% English-medium education throughout all 6 years — no Georgian language requirement for the degree. Russia requires Russian language from Year 1 for clinical patient interaction from Year 3, which some students find challenging. If complete English immersion is important to you, Georgia is the stronger choice.
Russia’s winters are severe — temperatures drop to −10°C to −25°C in most university cities. Students from Gujarat find the first winter particularly difficult. Georgia’s winters are mild — 0°C to 10°C in Tbilisi, similar to a north Indian winter. If climate adaptability is a concern, Georgia has a significant advantage.
Russia wins on sheer volume — with 50+ NMC-approved universities, students have far more choice at different price points, cities, and campus environments. Georgia has fewer options (6–8 solid NMC-approved universities, mostly in Tbilisi), but those options are high quality and well-suited for Indian students.
Choose Russia if: budget is the top priority, you want the widest choice of universities, or you are comfortable adapting to Russian language for clinical years.
Choose Georgia if: you want 100% English immersion, prefer a mild European-style city environment, or want a shorter, simpler adaptation experience abroad.
Both are excellent choices. Our free counselling session helps you decide based on your exact NEET score, budget, and personal preferences.
Top universities in both countries produce strong NExT/FMGE results. Sechenov, RUDN, and Kazan in Russia and Tbilisi State Medical University and New Vision University in Georgia are specifically known for good results. University selection within each country matters more than the country itself.
At the budget university level, Russia is slightly more affordable. At the mid-to-top university level, fees are comparable. Georgia’s living costs are similar to Russia’s. The total cost difference between the two over 6 years is typically ₹2–5 lakhs — not dramatic enough to be the deciding factor by itself.
