The 10 Questions Every Gujarat Parent Asks About MBBS Abroad

1. Is the degree valid? Will my child actually become a doctor in India?

Yes — provided two conditions are met. First, the university must be NMC-approved and WHO-listed (Doctor’s Direction only recommends such universities). Second, your child must clear the NExT (National Exit Test) after returning to India. After clearing NExT, your child receives an Indian medical licence identical to that of a doctor who studied in India. Thousands of doctors practicing in India today studied in Russia, Georgia, and Kazakhstan.

2. Is it safe? What about crime, health, and student welfare?

Russia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Philippines all have established Indian student communities with active student associations, India-affiliated organisations, and university support systems for international students. None of these countries has a significant crime problem specifically targeting Indian students. University hostels are secure, centrally heated (in cold countries), and well-maintained. Doctor’s Direction stays in regular contact with all students after departure — we are a support system, not just an admission agent.

3. What is the real total cost? Any hidden charges?

Doctor’s Direction provides a complete, itemised cost disclosure before you commit anything: tuition per year, hostel per year, food allowance, visa fees, travel costs, and one-time setup costs. The total all-inclusive cost for 5–6 years ranges from ₹15 lakhs (Kyrgyzstan) to ₹40 lakhs (top Russia universities). There are no hidden charges — if anything changes, we inform you immediately.

4. What if my child struggles academically abroad?

NMC-approved universities have academic support systems for international students. Doctor’s Direction maintains contact with students throughout their programme and connects struggling students with senior Indian students and university tutors. The English-medium curriculum at our recommended universities removes language as a barrier to academic performance.

5. What about food? Will my child get vegetarian food?

Indian grocery stores and Indian restaurants are available in Bishkek, Moscow, Kazan, Tbilisi, Almaty, and Manila. Most Indian students cook in hostel kitchens using Indian groceries. Vegetarian options are available and become easier to access as students settle in. Georgia and Philippines are particularly known for food variety accessible to Indian students.

6. What if there is a medical emergency abroad?

All students are required to have medical insurance (included in our process guidance) that covers hospitalisation abroad. University health centres provide basic medical care. Doctor’s Direction maintains emergency contact protocols and coordinates with the university medical facility and Indian student associations in case of need. Parents are informed immediately in any serious situation.

7. Can we visit our child abroad?

Yes — India has direct flights to Moscow, Tbilisi, and Manila. Most Saurashtra and Gujarat parents visit their children during summer vacations (May–June) or winter breaks (December–January). University cities have adequate accommodation options for visiting parents. Doctor’s Direction can assist with parent travel logistics.

8. What about the NExT exam — is it very hard?

NExT is a standard medical licensing exam — comprehensive but fair. Students from top NMC-approved universities who prepare seriously clear it within 1–2 attempts. Doctor’s Direction provides NExT preparation guidance to all returning students. The exam is the same for all MBBS graduates — Indian and abroad — so there is no discrimination.

9. Can we get an education loan?

Yes — SBI, HDFC, Axis Bank, and Bank of Baroda all offer education loans for MBBS abroad from NMC-approved universities. Loan covers tuition, hostel, and living costs. Repayment begins after a moratorium period covering the full study duration plus 6–12 months. Our counsellors provide complete education loan guidance in the free session.

10. How do we know Doctor’s Direction is trustworthy?

We welcome this question above all others. Visit our Ahmedabad office in person. Speak with any of our past students and their parents — we will connect you with families from Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, and other Gujarat cities. Verify every university we recommend at nmc.org.in. We have built our reputation on transparency, not promises.

A Note to Gujarat Parents — From Doctor's Direction

We understand the weight of this decision. MBBS abroad is not a small commitment — it involves your child leaving home for 5–6 years, a significant financial investment, and an unfamiliar new environment. We have sat across from hundreds of Gujarat parents who felt exactly what you are feeling right now: concern, hope, uncertainty, and love for their child’s future.

Our promise to you is simple: we will only recommend what is genuinely best for your child. Not what gives us the highest commission, not what is easiest to sell — what is right for your specific child, your specific budget, and your family’s specific situation. That is why Doctor’s Direction was founded by a doctor, not a businessman.

FAQ – NEET Dropper MBBS Abroad

I have dropped twice. Am I too old for MBBS abroad?

No — most NMC-approved universities abroad have no upper age limit. Students up to 25–27 years regularly secure admissions. Your NEET 2026 score and academic eligibility are what matter, not your age or number of attempts.

Will MBBS abroad feel like a failure after dropping for NEET?

Absolutely not — and this framing needs to change. Thousands of India’s practicing doctors today studied abroad. The NExT exam is now the common standard for all medical graduates. A doctor who studied at Kazan Federal University (Russia) has the same licence as one from BJ Medical College (Ahmedabad). The path is different; the destination is identical.

What if I drop again after going abroad — can I return?

This question misunderstands the nature of studying abroad. Once you are enrolled in a structured 5–6 year medical programme with a clear graduation date, the concept of ‘dropping’ does not apply. You progress through the programme. The structured environment, clear milestones, and peer community are significant mental health advantages over the uncertainty of repeated NEET preparation.
